3 facts you didn't know about... Zambia!

1) In Zambia they speak ... more or less 72 languages and dialects!
Even thouh English is the official langage of Zambia, a lot of people do not know it. In the families and in the schools they use their local language for example Nyanja (in the capital of Zambia - Lusaka) or Bemba (in the Northen Province of Zambia).

I can teach you only a few words in Bemba!

Mulishani? - How are you?
Cishinka - The truth
Ciapla - the end

Frankly speaking, children (and sometimes also adults) don't know English at all and they can communicate only in Bemba.

2) The most popular zambian dish is... NSHIMA!

When you will go to Zambia (or Malawi) you will probably eat nshima every day :) It is a dish made from cassava and maize flour. I don't really know how to prepare nshima correctly so I will not give you any recipe but I have to admit that proces of preparing nshima is quite complicated.  I can only explain you how to eat nshima because it seems quite easy.

It is a tradition to sit on the floor (or around the table if in the house there is a table) and eat nshima with bare hands. You have to take a little pice of the disch into your hands, roll it and put it into special sauce. Nshima is a cheap dish given that lots of zambians cultivate cassavas and mais.

In the picture you can see a lady preparing cassava for nshima!

3) In Zambia the have a lots of .... kings!
Really! It's not a joke! I had an opportunity to meet one of them! He has a big palace (well, it's just a normal house but comparin to other houses in the village it is a huge palace), servants and a real authority. Twice we had a real audience in his palace, his servant gave as beer and coca-cola (which is really no to usual in the center of the bush). The audiencelasted an hour and we had to give a king as a present... a cow! It would be really rude and impolite to not give it to him!

His Majesty, King of Kazembe!
